How is mindfulness achieved? Well, this depends on the method you use to achieve mindfulness, and this usually depends a little on your intentions for mindfulness.
Do you want to not get so irritated by phone calls or other annoyances? Or, maybe you want to tap into your creativity or knowledge more? These intentions are both perfect examples of how using mindfulness can benefit someone. So, how do you achieve, and of course, reap ALL of the wonderful benefits of mindfulness? Let’s dive in and hopefully, you will find a way for you to reap those mindfulness benefits.

As discussed in “What is Mindfulness?” and explained in more detail in “Welcome to the Psychology of Mindfulness”, mindfulness is a state in which one is conscious or aware, while also calmly acknowledging one’s thoughts, feelings, and body while being present in the present moment.
More or less, mindfulness is being aware of yourself and the situation or task at hand. Also mentioned previously, most people use meditation or practice breathing techniques to reach mindfulness, but the actual realm of mindfulness can and does go much deeper than simply practicing your breathing or focusing.
To be fully aware of yourself and all that encompasses, you have to fully and truly know yourself, but also how to listen to yourself. Do you know what your body is telling you that it needs? Most people know when their body is telling them that they are hungry or thirsty, but most people don’t fully understand or know themselves enough to know what food fuels their body best, or even that maybe, they should drink a little more water.
So, how do you become fully aware of yourself? Practicing mindfulness helps one become fully aware of oneself. That sounds like a giant circle, right? It pretty much is. You have to practice mindfulness to achieve and benefit from mindfulness. However, all mindfulness really takes is for you to pause, take a second or two to take a deep breath, and refocus your mind on what is going on so that you can recollect yourself and be aware of and in the present moment.
The benefit of taking that second or two to refocus and recollect yourself is that you are calmer, more aware, and more present in the actual situation. You are not focused on previous situations or letting them bog you down so much, which makes you mindful of the current moment. You have just practiced mindfulness. This can be translated for several other situations like working out or any of your current hobbies or responsibilities. Don’t like taking out the trash? Take a second or two to breathe and accept the task at hand.
The benefits of mindfulness include mental, and also physical benefits. These benefits range from person to person, and also from the depth in which the person fully submerses themself into their mind in an attempt to understand or at least acknowledge themself and their mind.
“Once one truly understands themself, one can focus more outwardly and begin to understand and be present much more in the outside world.“
